Killer whale underwater by namu-the-orca Killer whale underwater by namu-the-orca
Species depicted: Orca or Killer whale (Orcinus orca)
Time taken: about one or two hours
References used: none
Tools of the trade: Photoshop CS5

Unimaginative title is unimaginative XD It seems like the last time I uploaded something cetacean related on here was absolutely ages ago, so while this is by far no stellar piece, I decided to just put it on here anyways. It's just a very simple Orca, underwater. It was drawn for a little girl I know as a request, but as I was/am quite busy with other projects as well, I didn't really put a hell a lot of time in it (ah well you know how kids are, they like everything) I promise that the next cetacean-thing I upload will be of better standards!

Heads up, this person stole this picture. kizzi210.deviantart.com/art/ki…
They have stolen two of mine as well, along with other people who's work I have not yet recognized.

No problem, and good luck. I'm dealing with them myself and they aren't being overly cooperative with the second drawing they used part of mine for.

I really love this, even if it's not to your super high standards =P I like the linework. The teeth are super!

The only thing that bothers me is the eye. Looks a bit lifeless to me.
But all in all, a solid piece

Did I hear something about a comic?!

Thanks! Teeth are my mortal enemies in digital art, for I can draw them in linework really well, but somehow always completely screw them up with colouring. It's just impossible! D:< As with the other comment, once you say it, I see it and can't un-see it either. Obviously there are no 'excuses' but its cause lies in the fact this was never even meant to be coloured: I just thought it would be a linework and thus went the lazy way colouring the eyes black. Though in this coloured setting they could indeed do with some sparkle or colouring.

Haha, yeah, my comic 'A Wholphin's Yourney'. It started as some brainfart somewhere in 2009, after reading the AWESOME Zenith comic. Got all inspired to make one myself, had no idea for a plot, threw some characters together and made a first page (of course there had to be a Shark). Now, three years later, I've been working really hard on the plot, the setting and the characters - though all behind the scenes. The story is about Brenin, a Wholphin living within a small pod near Dorre Island, Shark bay. When researchers decide to capture (some members of) the pod for tagging, Brenin's mother tells him to flee, thinking the humans will harm them. Brenin flees indeed and travel around the world for 7 years, meeting real-life famous cetaceans along the way, like Migaloo, Funghi and the killer whales of Argentina, among other, fictional ones. The only original things to be found in my gallery as of date is the cover: [link] the revamped first page [link] and the characters: [link] Before even wanting to get back into the actual pages or anything, I first want to sort out all the characters and the pod and its surroundings as a whole. Finn is the only one of the Dorre Island pod as of now who has a good reference sheet: [link] and the others are to come. Like said, work has been more plentiful behind the scenes, with the whole Transient killer whale pod thought out in characters, as well as the Belugas. I might put those up in the near future (:

The comic sounds super! It will be nice to see more of it.

I've wanted to do a comic. And DID attempt one XD I got like 10 pages in but realised it wasn't fantastic so scrapped it. I want to get back into another. Have a couple ideas running through my head but nothing solid yet.
The problem though is that I am super lazy and a comic is so much work and so hard : P I don't think I could ever follow through with one hahah.

Yeah, that's the main fear I'm dealing with also. All those pages... I guess you'd just need a hell a lot of free time to really get going with a comic - if you want to keep up high quality and full coloured art, at least. I'd love to see a comic from you, though :D Perhaps you could start with a small one, only a few pages long, to see if you can keep your concentration focussed?

Thank you, though I've gotta be honest that I fear this piece is getting more love than it deserves and that the next thing I'll upload (dolphins I've been working on for weeks) won't get even half the attention :XD: Big bulls indeed are one of the most handsome craatures on the planet; so impressive!
