Over the years quite a few people have suggested I'd try painting some ancient whales, and I guess I finally (somewhat) got round to that yesterday :)
Here's a couple of sketches of Basilosaurus on top and Dorudon below. All these were drawn over photos or illustrations of articulated skeletons which are not always restored in a very lifelike manner, so the poses may be a bit wonky. Also, I'm not an official paleoartist, so I can't say these are extremely accurate. I just took my knowledge of modern cetaceans and applied them to old bones for fun!

It's quite striking how ALL of the skeletons I based these on were restored with their mouth open. I guess if something prehistoric has a maw full of teeth people want to show it lol. Just to counter I've closed a pair of mouths too, one on the sleeping Dorudon, the other on a friendly looking Basilosaurus.

You should had added patterns on them similar to living dolphins.Imagine a Basilosaurus with a color similar to a short beaked dolphin!
